A delegation of the Security Support Section at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ) reviewed the tasks and duties of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) during their current visit to the USA.
The delegation is headed by Lieutenant Colonel Khaled Saeed Al Shamesi, Chief of Security Support Section. This visit aims to enhance the prospects for cooperation, the exchange of training and academic expertise, and to review the tasks and duties of a number of police departments in the U.S.
Sheriff John L. Scott, Chief of LASD, welcomed the delegation of the Security Support Section. He provided them with a general briefing about the county, and spoke of the role of cooperation in policing. They also discussed a number of policing issues and how to promote mutual cooperation – most particularly in the fields of operations and training applications.
Sheriff Scott hailed the distinguished relationship between the LASD and the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. He considered the value of exchanging professional expertise on tactical levels as one of the most important means to promote this relationship and to share the best practices to make our societies more secure. He pointed to the importance of comprehensive and integrated cooperation to ensure the ongoing success and the desired developments in police work.
Sheriff Scott also hailed the efforts of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, in establishing the culture of quality amongst the staff of the police force, which is the best approach to achieve strategic goals, develop services, spread knowledge, and exchange the best practices in police work.
The Security Support Section’s delegation also visited the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB), where they met with a number of its leaders, and reviewed the air and land training and tactics. In return, the delegation presented a film about the efforts, achievements, and tasks of the Security Support Section. The delegation also witnessed a number of the SWAT Team’s field tasks in addition to discussing the aspects of security cooperation in the fields of training, rehabilitation, and the exchange of expertise in order to promote security.
Within the same context, the Abu Dhabi Police delegation visited the Emergency Outreach Bureau (EOB) where they reviewed the operational policing efforts, and the aspects of policing coordination and cooperation in the field of managing emergencies and crisis. They also reviewed the best state-of-the-art practices in the field.
The delegation also visited the Los Angeles County Jail, and met with the warden and the security staff. They were introduced to the precautionary measures utilized in the event of emergencies, riots, or fights, and learned of the coordination mechanisms police departments utilize in regards to transferring detainees. They were briefed on the nature of the crimes that can pose a threat to the inmates and the means used to handle them.
The delegation met the Chief of the Police Academy and the training staff, and closely examined the training methods for newly recruited police officers, and the methods of selection and hiring. They were also introduced to the provided educational and training curricula, where they were able to benefit from the theoretical aspects, the practical applications, and the scientific content.
At the end of the visit, Lieutenant Colonel Al Shamesi and the Los Angeles County Sheriff exchanged commemorative shields and took photos to reminisce upon the occasion.
The ADP delegation included Lieutenant Colonel Khaled Saeed Al Shamesi, Chief of Security Support Section; Major Mohammed Mubarak Al Masa’bi, Security Support Patrols Branch Manager; Captain Mohammed Ibrahim Al Balas, Operations Planning Branch Manager; along with a number of other officers and experts from the section.
