ADP Showcases Latest Traffic Applications and Technological Solutions at GITEX

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, October 13th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

Abu Dhabi Police (ADP), represented by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, showcased the latest applications and integrated technological solutions at the Ministry of Interior’s (MoI) information technology exhibit at GITEX in the Dubai World Trade Centre.  The showcased applications and solutions keep pace with the latest practices and intelligent traffic systems, which enhance traffic safety levels on the roads.

Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate, explained that the Traffic Directorate’s participation at GITEX includes a display of the Traffic Systems Center, which is equipped with advanced software that operates as an integrated system to manage traffic practices. The integrated system monitors and evaluates the traffic flow on roads in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and the performance of the staff at the directorate which increases the efficiency of the human and financial resources utilized.

“The center monitors traffic flow at all times through the control rooms that are equipped with the latest technologies, thus solving issues related to traffic congestion. The center also monitors the roads in order to avoid confusion or congestion likely caused by traffic diversions and heavy vehicles on the road,” he said.

The Traffic Systems Center additionally aims to analyze the data of traffic violations and other traffic functions by artificial intelligence. With the ability to connect several traffic systems, the center integrates the evaluation and analyses of the systems and can completely restructure traffic.

Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi said the Traffic Directorate’s exhibition also showcases the Smart Cabins Project which represents an important step in enhancing the ongoing communication with drivers via large electronic boards on the external roads of Abu Dhabi. The cabins can remotely sense the traffic conditions on the road and transmit messages of guidance or warning in regards to any accidents or congestion on the road. The sophisticated sensors have the ability to measure visibility distances drivers may be exposed to during foggy conditions or sand storms.

The booth at GITEX also displays the project set in place for identifying motorists who run red lights, speed, or who fail to drive in the designated lanes.

Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi highlighted the keenness of the directorate to participate in technological events and to take advantage of such opportunities to enhance its intelligent systems. “These types of events contribute to our aspirations of achieving the highest quality of standards and development of traffic safety, and serve the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, in which we strive for zero-fatalities,” he said.
