PARIS - Thursday, September 19th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE) OSIsoft and Microsoft together launched the PI System @cityscale connected with Microsoft CityNext. The joint-initiative is designed to help governments, businesses and citizens reimagine what is next for their cities. Through the Microsoft CityNext initiative with the PI System @cityscale, Microsoft and OSIsoft will help leaders in academia, industry and government to do “new with less,” by combining the power of technology with innovative ideas to connect governments, businesses and citizens with city services that increase efficiencies, reduce costs, foster a more sustainable environment and cultivate communities where people thrive.

For over 30 years, OSIsoft customers have been using the PI System to manage critical infrastructure data from within industrial facilities. Today, during OSIsoft’s 2013 EMEA Users Conference, OSIsoft and Microsoft jointly presented how the Microsoft CityNext solutions and the PI System can be used by cities with a people-first approach to effectively manage, present and analyze streaming data and events for solutions in Energy & Water, Buildings, Critical Facilities, Datacenters and Transportation @cityscale, benefiting both the customer and partner ecosystem.

“Our participation in Microsoft CityNext demonstrates our commitment to helping cities innovate now and modernize their infrastructure for the future. Microsoft devices and services platform provides us with greater opportunities to help city customers transform their operations through familiar, self-service tools, to engage citizens and businesses through social media and apps in real-time, and to allow multiple organizations to share real-time and historical data in a dynamic and secure way, with PI Cloud Connect on Microsoft Azure,” said Dave Roberts, Fellow and Market Principle for Smart Cities, OSIsoft. “Our industrial customers have been using the PI System to connect to their physical infrastructures for over 30 years and now we are enabling the management of streaming data and events for the connected supply chain @cityscale”.

“We’re thrilled to partner with OSIsoft on Microsoft CityNext. Microsoft prioritizes putting people and partners first in our initiatives and Microsoft CityNext is no different,” said Joel Cherkis, General Manager, Worldwide Government Industry Sales, Microsoft Worldwide Public Sector. “Even though cities are feeling the strain from economic challenges, we believe a new era of innovation will create opportunities for people to utilize technology to accomplish what they never thought possible. Combining the power of data from the OSIsoft PI System along with Microsoft Power BI for Office 365 helps our customers to harness the power of connected city systems to meet their goals and open up new opportunities for businesses in the cities.”
