Rewired Targets Growth-Stage AI Ventures

LONDON & LAUSANNE, Switzerland.-Tuesday 31 March 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

Rewired is seeking to make new investments of $5m to $30m in growth-stage artificial intelligence and robotics ventures.

The deep-tech fund invests in applied science and technologies and says it is vital that investment continues despite ongoing global events.

Rewired received $100m of new funding in 2019 from investor Tej Kohli.

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Rewired, the robotics focused venture studio that invests in growth-stage technology ventures, is seeking to add new artificial intelligence and robotics investments to its portfolio. The portfolio currently encompasses innovations in machine learning, robotics, bionics, smart sensors, mapping and localization in the UK and USA.

Backed by investors who believe that analysts are underestimating the prospects of AI, Rewired seeks to make investments of between $5m and $30m. Its status as a venture studio means that Rewired uniquely seeks to attain a substantial or majority position as an investor, and to then provide long term funding and expertise. The Rewired approach is to alleviate founders from the burden of constant fundraising so they can focus on growth, whilst avoiding the dilution that VC’s typically accept during multiple funding rounds.

Rewired is seeking to back ventures that require growth capital to scale existing proprietary solutions that have already been proven, with a clear pathway to profitable growth. Experienced founders and a management team with commercial credibility in the intended marketplace are also a prerequisite for a Rewired investment, as is acceptance that the venture studio seeks to take a significant equity stake and to play a very active role.

Rewired has also made two new appointments in its Swiss office to support future deal flow. Laurent Bischof has joined Rewired as a Board Director. In 2016 Laurent co-founded Bloom, the first AI platform dedicated to strategic analysis of social networks. He also has over 15 years of venture capital experience. Marc-Olivier Bertholet has joined Rewired as a special advisor with over 20 years of international biotech and MedTech experience.

Many of the ventures backed by Rewired have humanitarian applications. In October 2017 Rewired led the funding round for Mountain View-based Aromyx, a venture that has developed olfactory biosensors that enable machines to taste and smell. In 2019 Aromyx completed successful trials of its olfactory sensor technology with a global plastics and chemicals company. Less than 10% of the world’s plastics are currently being recycled, with odour quality being a major barrier to broad-scale recycling. The 2019 trials indicated that the Aromyx technology could help to raise global plastic recycling to between 60% and 80%.

In 2017 Rewired also backed Bristol-based Open Bionics, a robotics manufacturer that has developed the next generation of 3D-printed bionic limbs. The company’s ‘Hero Arm’ is the world’s first clinically approved 3D-printed bionic arm. Since its fundraising, Open Bionics has expanded and exported bionic arms to the USA, Europe Australia and New Zealand.

Based in London in the United Kingdom and Lausanne in Switzerland, Rewired is funded by investors including the Cascade Global multi-family office and the Kohli Ventures investment vehicle of Tej Kohli. Cascade Global is also an investor in the Rewired.GG sister fund, which in 2019 became Europe largest esports investor when it invested €34m in an esports team.

Laurent Bischof, newly appointed Board Director of Rewired said:

“The majority of Rewired investments are still in stealth mode. But we believe that artificial intelligence and robotics will change everything, from making businesses more efficient to improving healthcare and even extending human life. The ventures that Rewired seeks to back are building the technology platforms that will help to power the new economy.”

Amit Jain, CEO of Cascade Global said:

“There are unprecedented events in the world at the moment and it is vital that we continue to invest in building the future through funds like Rewired. The promise of the artificial intelligence economy offers unprecedented opportunities to improve every aspect of human life and Rewired seeks to back the ventures that will enable this future.”

Tej Kohli, investor in Rewired said:

“I believe that artificial intelligence will change the world for the better and will be the biggest thing to ever happen to humanity. I am fascinated by the technologies that will be needed in order to put artificial intelligence into everything. This is exactly where I have placed my investment focus and Rewired aligns with this investment outlook entirely.”

Josh Silverman, CEO of Aromyx said:

“Since Rewired recapitalised with $100m of new funding in 2019, the team has always been emphatic that they have the resources available for $20m+ of further funding that could be made available to us. This is commensurate with what I have come to learn is the Rewired philosophy - that founders are free to build their company without constant fund-raisings.”

About Rewired

Rewired is a robotics focused venture studio and investment fund. Established in 2017 in the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the Rewired thesis is that artificial intelligence can make every industry and everything that is around us perform better with minimal human input. Rewired is on a mission to master the constellation of technologies that will enable this AI economy. This involves looking past the capabilities of human perception and into new technologies that allow us to tap into and create entirely new modalities of data and advancements that will enable the optimal application of AI throughout everyday life.

Diligent Offers Seamless Video Conferencing Access Across All Board Management Platforms to Ensure Secure, Virtual Board Meetings as the Workforce Shifts Remote

New functionality in Diligent Boards, BoardEffect, and Community by Diligent mitigates security risks associated with virtual meetings by offering one-click access to video conferencing solutions

NEW YORK-Tuesday 31 March 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Diligent announced today a new, more secure approach to video conferencing across its board management applications – including Diligent Boards for enterprise, BoardEffect for nonprofits, and Community by Diligent for schools and local government – as board meetings and sensitive leadership discussions shift to a remote setting due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in preparation for the future of work.

Directors and executives can join confidential virtual meetings with one click from within Diligent’s suite of secure board applications – mitigating the risk associated with sharing meeting invite links to unsecure devices on home networks and personal email accounts that can easily be intercepted. Access to links to virtual meetings within Diligent’s platforms includes leading video applications like Zoom, WebEx, and Go-To-Meeting.

This update comes as organizations increase the frequency of confidential board and committee meetings to manage the COVID-19 crisis, in addition to preparing for long-scheduled quarterly board meetings and annual shareholder meetings. As video conferences become an increasingly important collaboration tool across the organization, corporations will require advanced security protocols to protect sensitive, confidential meeting information from leakage or attack.

Diligent has built its suite of leading modern governance applications with these security challenges in mind and is preparing board directors and company executives for a future of work that is much more virtual. In addition to improving the user experience, the enhanced video conference functionality removes the liability of distributing meeting invite links in shared calendars across devices and on unsophisticated personal networks.

“Modern governance is crucial during these unprecedented times. The sudden shift to remote meetings is a major adjustment but also preparing us for the future of work, where executives and boards will require better, more private and secure, mobile tools.” said Brian Stafford, CEO of Diligent. “Diligent is committed to innovating to support our clients. Board members already have the routine of going into our application for all their materials. With the shift to virtual meetings, we are centralizing the meetings on Diligent, making it easier for directors to join the video conference and helping companies securely distribute meeting information.”

Diligent’s functionality to support virtual meetings is built within its board management applications – Boards, BoardEffect and Community – and can help organizations large and small collaborate, communicate, and manage crises remotely and securely, which is imperative to driving modern governance during the ongoing response to COVID-19. Multi-Lingual Support From the Global MediXchange of Combating COVID-19 (GMCC) Programme to Further Enable Sharing Among Medical Personnel Worldwide

HANGZHOU, China-Thursday 26 March 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Over 440 medical institutions from 104 countries and regions have applied to learn and share experiences in battling COVID-19 through the International Medical Expert Communication Platform. The Handbook of COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment is now available in seven languages with more to come.

The platform, a centerpiece of the Global MediXchange for Combating COVID-19 (GMCC) program, was jointly established by the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation. It is designed for medical experts around the world to communicate seamlessly with each other to share their invaluable experience of fighting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and to ask and answer each other’s questions. To date, the most applications have come in thus far from medical institutions in the U.S, Turkey, the U.K., Pakistan, Spain and Germany.

Medical staff need to apply and be approved to join the platform. Once they’re accepted, they’re free to participate in individual or group discussions and sessions.

“Knowledge is power! We launched an online platform for doctors and nurses around the world to exchange ideas, lessons and know-how to fight the virus. We welcome all hospitals to join Chinese hospitals on this open platform https://covid-19.alibabacloud.com. One world, one fight!" Jack Ma wrote in a tweet Wednesday.

Tapping Alibaba Group’s DingTalk messaging and communications functions, the digital platform provides free audio and video conference functionality, along with live broadcast functions for more-complex scenarios. Medical workers from different countries can choose to communicate with their fellow doctors individually, or they can participate in live-sharing group sessions to interact with multiple participants, using real-time artificial intelligence translation to overcome communication barriers. The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine (FAHZU), for example, has been using the platform to share their valuable experience with 92 medical institutions from 44 countries and regions.

A playback function allows further sharing or posting on official websites for consumption anytime – and for those who can’t join the live broadcasts due to the time difference or if they are occupied by their duties.

To date, the International Medical Expert Communication Platform has attracted numerous Chinese medical institutions, including Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University (Wuhan Leishenshan Hospital), The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine (FAHZU), and others.

Through video conferencing and AI translation from and into 11 languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Indonesian, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese), the platform aims to build a virtual community.

DingTalk, which powers this platform, has also been tabbed by UNESCO as facilitating distance learning during the coronavirus outbreak.

Also as part of the GMCC programme, the Handbook of COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment, authored by The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine and compiled according to clinical experience, is now available at no cost in Chinese, English, French, Italian, Japanese, Turkish and Spanish. This handbook provides comprehensive guidelines and best practices by China's top experts for coping with COVID-19. More languages will be added soon, as the GMCC programme continues to launch more anti-epidemic resources and provide more practical suggestions and references for medical staff worldwide.

ABB: COVID-19 Update

ZURICH-Monday 30 March 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ABB is constantly monitoring the pandemic situation around COVID-19 (novel coronavirus). The health and safety of its employees, customers and partners remains the company’s number one priority and we are working hard to assess and mitigate any risks.

Guidance issued on February 5, 2020, did not include impacts due to the coronavirus, the effects of which were mainly limited to China at that time. We have subsequently experienced a decline in trading conditions due to the outbreak, further impacted by a weakening oil price.

The situation in China has stabilized following extensive government-led efforts in February and operations at ABB’s three main production hubs of Shanghai, Beijing and Xiamen have largely returned to normal. While weakened customer demand in China, our second largest market, will also impact the first quarter results, our China business has been improving recently. At the same time, COVID-19 has spread rapidly to the western hemisphere in March, resulting in governments and customers adopting containment measures that have material economic consequences across the globe.

Q1 2020 impact

Although it is not yet possible to determine the exact impact of COVID-19 on ABB’s first quarter results, ABB expects revenues to decline in all its businesses relative to a year ago, while orders are somewhat less impacted. The Robotics & Discrete Automation business, which was already facing significant end-market headwinds from the automotive sector, remains challenged, with first quarter orders and revenues both expected to decline by more than 20 percent year-on-year.

Operational EBITA margins are also expected to decline in all ABB’s businesses, burdened by lower volumes, partly offset by self-help efforts. Self-help initiatives are aided by the framework ABB already has in place to implement ABB’s Operating System (ABB-OS). At the same time, the company is significantly intensifying mitigation measures and actively reducing all non-essential costs, and all of ABB’s businesses are rigorously focused on serving their customers while sustaining cash flow.

2020 outlook

Each of our businesses are closely monitoring current and potential effects of the outbreak. Currently, the majority of ABB’s production facilities remain fully or partly operational and supply chain impacts have been minimal. However, the outbreak is expected to continue to have an impact globally, potentially creating disruption across production sites and further curtailing product demand, project and service activity.

In addition to short-cycle headwinds impacting all our businesses, we expect project business to be dampened by the weaker outlook for oil and gas capital expenditures and a fall-off in cruise ship activity. By contrast, transport projects look more resilient and the outlook for select high growth areas, such as data centers, remains robust. Systems and service activity is curtailed by restrictions to cross-border travel for specialized sales and service engineers.

ABB is accelerating and extending its mitigation measures ahead of what looks set to be a difficult second quarter, with a focus on adjusting capacity to meet reduced demand.

Given continued uncertainty, including the recent oil price decline, ABB is no longer providing financial guidance for full year 2020.

ABB continues to work toward the delivery of transformation milestones, including the divestment of Power Grids which is targeted for completion at the end of the second quarter.

Despite short-term disruptions, ABB is confident in the underlying resilience of its businesses and operating model, and that its short-term liquidity needs are well covered by the financial framework it has in place.

“I would like to take this opportunity during these extraordinary times to thank the whole ABB team for sticking together and handling this global pandemic with the highest level of professionalism,” said ABB CEO Björn Rosengren. “The health and safety of all stakeholders, above all our employees, remains our number one priority at this moment in time, while we also try our utmost to secure business continuity. We remain prepared for any scenario and will take strong action to mitigate the impact for our customers, shareholders and employees.”

“Furthermore, the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of ABB have decided to voluntarily take an immediate 10 percent reduction in board compensation and salary for the duration of the crisis, with the view to extend this strong sign of solidarity to other senior management levels within the company. We must stay strong together for the whole of ABB and for our society. The money saved through the compensation and salary reductions will be donated by ABB towards efforts aimed at fighting the impacts of the Coronavirus crisis,” said the CEO.

“After many of my first meetings since joining ABB earlier this year, my impressions of the company and its people are very positive. ABB is a strong company, with a tremendous spirit and the right products and technology to drive the positive and sustainable development of the world in the future,” Rosengren added.

ExThera’s Affinity Blood Filter Is Used to Treat COVID-19 Patients

MARTINEZ, Calif.-Sunday 29 March 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Treatment of COVID-19 with ExThera’s Seraph®100 Microbind® Affinity Blood Filter (Seraph 100) has begun in hospitals in Germany and Italy. Seraph 100 treatments of COVID-19 are also expected to begin soon in France and the USA.

Seraph 100 is the only ‘hemoperfusion device’ approved for the reduction of pathogens in blood. In recent EU clinical cases improved lung function and rapid reduction of drug-resistant bacterial pathogens occurred with Seraph 100 treatment. Stabilization of blood pressure has also been observed, including during COVID-19 treatment. Another potential benefit of Seraph 100 treatment of COVID-19 is reduction in bloodborne virus/RNA, and the simultaneous treatment of bacterial and fungal ‘secondary infections’.

Clinical results and virus binding studies suggested that Seraph 100 treatment should help in the treatment of COVID-19, and in future epidemics, before vaccines are available. More clinical results are needed to confirm patient benefit in COVID-19, but lab studies with cytokines and other pathogens have accurately predicted Seraph 100 clinical results in other bloodstream infections.

One consideration is whether SARS-CoV-2 is present in the bloodstream of infected patients in measurable concentrations, and if so, at what stage of the infection. Very recent publications and clinician feedback confirm the presence of the virus (RNA) in the blood of critically ill COVID-19 patients. The measured binding capacity of a single Seraph 100 filter (about the size of a 12-ounce soda can) is huge in comparison to the amount of virus present in the bloodstream of critically-ill patients.

Lakhmir S. Chawla, MD, Chair of ExThera’s Scientific Advisory Board added, “In respiratory diseases caused by viruses, the onset of viremia (virus in the bloodstream) typically heralds severe disease. Reducing viral levels of COVID-19 may allow the body’s immune system to combat the deadly pathogen.”

President and CEO of ExThera Medical, Robert Ward NAE stated, “We are very pleased to confirm the feasibility of Seraph 100 treatment of COVID-19. Since Seraph 100 treatments have also consistently produced improved oxygenation/lung function, we believe that this feature together with virus reduction may be a useful combination for treating COVID-19, while simultaneously treating the dangerous secondary infections that can occur in COVID-19 patients.”

Seraph 100 has CE Mark approval in the European Union but is not currently approved by the FDA for use in the United States. ExThera has received clinician interest in individual emergency use of Seraph 100 in the USA and we expect COVID-19 treatments to begin here soon, when they meet the criteria outlined in the FDA Guidance. ExThera will report on ongoing EU COVID-19 cases and related case studies as soon as they are available, while adhering to HIPAA and GDPR requirements for patient confidentiality. Related peer-reviewed publications are in preparation or in press.

“We are excited about adding SARS-CoV-2 to the long list of bloodborne pathogens that Seraph 100 can target,” commented Keith McCrea, PhD. and Chief Science Officer of ExThera Medical. “This can open up a new treatment modality for this and future emerging diseases for which there are few if any treatments.” Seraph 100’s very broad-spectrum capability is based on its large biomimetic blood-contacting surface that imitates the binding sites disease-causing pathogens target once they find their way into the bloodstream.

The Seraph 100 blood filter provides a needed option for treating life-threatening bloodstream infections using new technology. Whereas first-generation hemoperfusion devices remove only molecules, Seraph 100 also quickly lowers the concentration of bacteria, viruses, and fungi in whole blood. Seraph 100 is able to significantly reduce the bloodstream concentration of both drug-susceptible and drug-resistant pathogens, providing a long-awaited adjunctive therapy that addresses the severe problem of drug-resistance, and new and future bacterial, fungal and viral threats like COVID-19.

Professor Jan Kielstein, Director of Medical Clinic V, Academic Teaching Hospital Braunschweig, Germany who has performed many Seraph 100 treatments recently said, "When a pathogen like SARS-CoV-2 comes out of Pandora's Box we have to think outside of the box for a countermeasure. Seraph 100 is a disruptive technology that had been shown to eliminate infectious agents from the blood without side effects. Extracorporeal treatment with the Seraph 100 could offer an added benefit to critically ill patients with severe COVID-19."

Seraph 100 received CE Mark approval for the broad indication of pathogen reduction during bloodstream infections in adjunction with antibiotic therapy. Seraph 100 distributors in the EU include Heinz Meise GmbH in Germany, Burke & Burke in Italy, and TOP Medical in the Benelux countries. Distributors have recently been named in several other regions. Working with Gorta, Ireland’s oldest NGO, ExThera has also entered a public-private partnership designed to strengthen public health systems in developing countries by making world-class medical devices available at affordable prices.

About the Seraph® 100 (Seraph) Microbind® Affinity Blood Filter

As a patient's blood flows through the Seraph filter, it passes over tiny beads with receptors that mimic the receptors on human cells that pathogens target when they invade the body. Harmful substances are quickly captured and adsorbed onto the surface of the beads and are thereby removed from the bloodstream. Seraph does not add anything to the blood, which is returned to the patient with blood cells and proteins intact. Seraph targets the pathogens that cause the infection, while it also binds and removes harmful substances generated by the pathogen and by the body’s response to the infection. Seraph’s adsorption media (the beads) constitute a flexible platform that uses immobilized (chemically bonded) heparin for its well-established blood compatibility and its unique ability to bind bacteria, viruses, fungi, and important sepsis mediators reported to contribute to organ failure during sepsis. The ‘anti-thrombogenic’ heparin media can be combined with other ExThera-proprietary media to tailor the capability of future Seraph products for the treatment of specific diseases, or to further broaden Seraph’s capability.

DXC Technology’s Integrated Patient-Centered Care Solution Creates New Opportunities for Interoperability and Patient Engagement

TYSONS, Va-Sunday 29 March 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- DXC Technology (NYSE: DXC) today introduced an advanced Patient-Centered Care solution, a customizable and personalized-health offering that gives healthcare providers the technology to meet the high expectations of today’s patients — without sacrificing cost containment and clinician satisfaction.

The healthcare industry is experiencing a value-based shift of epic proportions, driven by key external trends like an aging population; the proliferation of chronic diseases; rising healthcare costs; staffing shortages; and digital citizenship creating more informed patients. To elevate the patient experience, improve individual outcomes and create a healthier population, healthcare leaders are seeking new business and integrated care models that merge healthcare and life sciences while empowering patients and providers alike.

To help solve these challenges, DXC Patient-Centered Care provides advanced patient-engagement tools that offer convenient care from anywhere, via phone or tablet, at an affordable price. Backed by DXC’s interoperability, analytics and security products, the solution enables providers to access a continuous stream of patient-care data, helping them put the patient first throughout the continuum of care.

“In the age of ‘Dr. Google’ and same-day Amazon deliveries, patients are increasingly more demanding. They will no longer tolerate half-day waits for discharge instructions that could be delivered in seconds via a chatbot, or receive test results by snail mail when they could be viewed immediately on a mobile app. They expect better value and engagement from caregivers, driving the industry to move from traditional care-delivery models toward a patient-centered journey of care,” said Andrea Fiumicelli, vice president and general manager, Healthcare and Life Sciences, DXC Technology. “Our new Patient-Centered Care solution combines DXC’s industry expertise and leading healthcare technology to equip providers with custom-built, next-generation and coordinated care solutions.”

“The future of connected healthcare is centered around collaboration and care, and today’s busy providers need to find innovative ways to connect with their patients within and beyond the walls of a hospital or clinic,” said Dr. Michael Dahlweid, who recently joined DXC as its new global chief medical officer. “Our goal is to enable care teams to share health information across multiple systems, channels, practices and infrastructures, and aggregate it into a secure, consolidated view of the patient’s history of care. This persona-based access to real-time health data will allow clinicians to make the best possible decisions for their patients’ treatment. With speed, scale, flexibility and continuous innovation, DXC Technology prepares traditional healthcare organizations to become major digital-health enablers.”

The DXC Healthcare Portfolio

Patient-Centered Care is the newest solution in DXC’s extensive healthcare portfolio that is transforming the healthcare industry. The portfolio also includes:
  • DXC Open Health Connect, a healthcare platform that helps improve healthcare outcomes by creating a connected ecosystem for patients, providers and payers.
  • DXC Healthcare Cloud, a cloud-based solution that reduces complexity and risk while allowing approved parties to securely access applications and data 24/7.
  • DXC Healthcare Security Services — for which DXC was recently named a leader in the Everest Group PEAK Matrix Assessment 2020 — to help healthcare providers quickly identify and respond to threats, protect data and patient privacy, and securely manage patient identities stored on-premise or in the cloud.
  • DXC Health360™, a cloud-based solution that enables providers and payers to personalize care experiences, deliver quality and increase customer loyalty at a lower cost.
  • DXC Life Sciences solutions, which give life sciences organizations — including all 12 U.S. Fortune 500 pharmaceutical companies — the tools they need to accelerate innovation, improve operational efficiencies and reduce time to market for new therapies, devices and medicines.

From USA to France and From UK to Mexico, Bacardi Diverts Global Production to Increase Hand Sanitizer Supply for Local Communities

Brands across company’s portfolio including BACARDÍ®, MARTINI®, GREY GOOSE®, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE®, DEWAR’S® and ANGEL’S ENVY® unite to help produce more than 267,000 gallons (1.1 million liters) of hand sanitizers.

HAMILTON, Bermuda-Sunday 29 March 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Family-owned Bacardi has expanded its commitment across countries and brands to help produce more than 267,000 gallons (1.1 million liters) of hand sanitizers, as worldwide demand continues to exceed supply in efforts to reduce the risk of COVID-19. This week, eight Bacardi-owned manufacturing sites across the United States, Mexico, France, England, Italy and Scotland are joining the efforts, following last week’s announcement that Bacardi in Puerto Rico would supply alcohol to make hand sanitizers. Across the sites, Bacardi is diverting its global production power, resources and processes to supply the much-needed alcohol essential for the increased production of hand sanitizers.

Bacardi is also playing a part in donating these products to local organizations and emergency responders, as well as its employees and contractors. In addition, the company is providing alcohol at cost to select partner companies looking to ramp up their production of hand sanitizers for commercial sale. These temporary, emergency actions at all locations will not disrupt the supply of brands in the Bacardi portfolio.

“Over our 158-year history, we have risen to many challenges and we are doing the same again in response to COVID-19,” said Jean-Marc Lambert, SVP Global Operations for Bacardi. “All our brands and partners involved in this initiative will help people most in need benefit from the supply of these hand sanitizers. Our goal is to make a very real difference in the fight against COVID-19.”

The current list of sites providing support either immediately or in the coming week are:

BACARDÍ rum in Puerto Rico – partnered with Puerto Rico based manufacturer Olein Refinery to provide raw materials that will enable the production of more than 1.7M units of 10-ounce (300 ml) hand sanitizers. Donated product to local USPS, firefighters, police and non-profit Somos Unidos (United Way);
Bacardi Bottling Corporation in Jacksonville, FL, USA – is planning to help produce approximately 23,000 gallons (87,000 liters) to make 120,000 units of 25-ounce (750 ml) bottles hand sanitizer for donation to local hospitals, firefighters and police. In addition, the team will supply 7,600 gallons (29,000 liters) to nearby manufacturers.
BACARDÍ rum in Tultitlán, Mexico – supplying more than 5,200 gallons (20,000 liters) of alcohol to nearby manufacturer, Grupo Sterk, to help increase production of hand sanitizer by approximately 6,300 gallons (24,000 liters), of which 2,100 gallons (8,000 liters) will be donated by Bacardi to local communities in Tultitlán, Arandas and Atotonilco;
GREY GOOSE® vodka in Cognac, France – will supply 7,600 gallons (29,000 liters) of alcohol per day to French companies to increase supply of hand sanitizers by 9,500 gallons (36,000 liters) for local pharmacies, hospitals and the emergency services;
BOMBAY SAPPHIRE® gin in Hampshire, England – is helping to produce a small quantity of hand sanitizers that will be donated to local doctors, chemists and care homes;
MARTINI in Pessione, Italy – is supplying alcohol for the production of 1,000 7-ounce (200ml) hand sanitizers for the local community, Red Cross and local emergency services;
DEWAR’S® Blended Scotch Whisky in Aberfeldy, Scotland – is helping to produce a small quantity of hand sanitizers for the Scottish Ambulance Association among other local community groups;
ANGEL’S ENVY® Kentucky Straight Bourbon in Louisville, KY, USA – is supplying nearly 1,000 gallons (3,800 liters) of alcohol to create approximately 16,000 8-ounce (250 ml) bottles of free hand sanitizers for first responders and healthcare professionals.
All hand sanitizers produced in collaboration with Bacardi contain more than the minimum alcohol content recommended by the World Health Organization for containing the spread of the virus.

amnimo Inc. Starts Development of High-performance, Robust LTE Gateway (Edge Gateway) for Industrial Use

TOKYO -Friday 27 March 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- amnimo Inc. (Headquarters: Musashino City, Tokyo; President & CEO: Koichi [Casey] Taniguchi; hereafter, “amnimo”) starts developing an industrial-use LTE gateway, “Edge Gateway,” which is equipped with rich computing resources and a high level of robustness.

IoT is a mechanism by which a variety of devices are connected to each other via the network or the cloud service; these devices exchange information with each other. Recently, numerous approaches to the use of industrial-use IoT (IIoT) have been evolving in all types of industries. As IIoT continues to proliferate, examples of user work process improvements are increasing, but at the same time, we are witnessing operational issues such as suppressing failures in harsh external environments and being able to remotely deal with failures without going to the site. There have also been requests to process large volumes of data, such as video, using Edge in an advanced manner.

To resolve such issues, amnimo is developing the “Edge Gateway,” which is optimized for IIoT. The objective is to equip the Edge Gateway with LTE communication features that can be used in a wide variety of industries; in particular, to develop an optimal design for use in surveillance-camera systems.

[Characteristics of the Edge Gateway]

Wide operating temperature range and power voltage range. Equipped with power circuits that are robust against noise and sudden outages, it has features for automatic recovery in case of a failure. This helps achieve stable operation even in harsh outdoor environments.
Equipped with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB eMMC for program storage space as the standard configuration, it can also be operated using a 2-TB SSD (Solid State Drive), enabling large-volume video data to be stored within the Edge Gateway.
Equipped with a power-supply function for PoE(*1) compatible devices, it can be directly connected to a maximum of four IP cameras without using a PoE hub.
The communication modules can accommodate two types of plastic SIM cards and eSIMs for a maximum of four different carrier SIMs, enabling the user to bypass communication failures by switching SIMs at high speeds in cases of emergency.
Customer app development is possible on the Ubuntu OS; in addition, software development kits are provided for partners.
Equipped with a VMS (Video Management System (*2)) as standard, simplifying the process of constructing small-, medium-, and large-scale surveillance systems.
An extension port slot is internally provided in the Edge Gateway, enabling smooth addition of future functional extensions.

*1 Power over Ethernet: Specification wherein power is provided to the connected device(s) using Ethernet communication cables.
*2 System for saving and managing video captured using a surveillance camera.

In addition, we are developing a “device management system” to resolve issues related to operation on IIoT devices, such as the Edge Gateway. This device management system is a cloud service that enables initial configuration of IIoT devices, remote configuration and firmware updates, management of installation location, equipment life monitoring, log collection during operation, problem analysis and replacement, and transfer of configuration data for troubleshooting, thereby reducing the burden on the operator.

amnimo provides customer support for IIoT service and surveillance-camera systems, with the following objectives: “fast response and resolution for customer issues,” “value creation and innovation,” and “aim to grow with partners.”

About amnimo

amnimo was formed as a solely owned subsidiary of Yokogawa Electric Corporation as a new business to provide Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) services in May 2018. With an excellent mobility, amnimo makes a swift decision and develops its business in a rapidly changing market. amnimo strengthens collaboration with customers and partner companies in various fields and countries to create new shared values by leveraging IIoT technologies.
