Toyota's Dream Car Art Contest Digs Deep, Extracts Essence of Children's Ideas, Showcased on "Dream Car Collection"

Global Art Contest Crowd Sources and Amplifies Ideas for the Future

TOKYO - Tuesday, July 28th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) today announced the launch of the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest “Dream Car Collection” which will feature a deep dive into children’s creative ideas, bringing them to life via animation and “characters” that will act as the digital ambassadors to the contest. 93 pieces of artwork will be showcased on the campaign site (www.dreamcar-collection.com) with a focus not just on pure artistry, but the actual essence of the idea behind the art. The way forward rests with our youth, and the Dream Car Collection will not only connect children across the world to share their ideas, but provide a deeper, tangible understanding of the ideas that are born from various social issues affecting our world.

To dig deep into the essence of children’s ideas, Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) partnered with creative agency Saatchi & Saatchi Fallon Tokyo to design the “Dream Car Collection” campaign. The “Dream Car Collection” site will house the best 93 dream car drawings and will be re-animated and brought to life to showcase the essence of the original idea that spawned the art. Visitors to the page will be able to see the various “dreams” in different countries around the world via a “Dream Map” that shows where each piece of art originated. The individual artwork is then featured on the site accompanied with video, and a “Did you know?” infographic will provide even further information around the essence of the idea. Starting today, new content will be uploaded everyday onto the site until August 25 so stay tuned for the “Handicap-friendly Cleaning Car,” “the Toyota Arctic Car” and much more. Some of the videos were actually created after the elements of the art were 3D printed. The printed artwork was then used to create a showcase video. The infographics, artwork and video content will be uploaded to the campaign’s Instagram, Facebook and Twitter pages for sharing.

The Toyota Dream Car Art Contest encourages children around the world to tap into their creativity and depict any car they can dream up and submit it to Toyota. Across the world, children under 15 submitted a drawing of their idea of a “Dream Car.”

Since the inception of Toyota’s Dream Car Art Contest, children around the world have depicted their car ideas based on societal, environmental, political, local and global issues affecting their lives. Markets around the world such as Vietnam and Thailand have even applied the art contest to their own educational curriculum. The contest has cultivated a culture of innovation and solution-based ideas, and the result has been a massive influx of new entries from various countries every year. Through Toyota’s thirst for innovation and dedication to craftsmanship, children around the world will have a chance to make their dreams come true through art and creativity.

Susumu Matsuda, General Manager, Marketing Division at Toyota commented that, “The Toyota Dream Car Art Contest is not merely a contest, but a chance for children around the world to share and showcase their innovative ideas for a car. We are thrilled that over 80 countries around the world have taken an interest in our contest and we hope to continue to grow the number of entries as we continue hosting the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest.”

Ltd today announced an exclusive license and collaboration agreement for the development and global commercialisation rights, except South Korea, China and Hong Kong, of HM61713, a novel 3rd generation EGFR targeted therapy for the treatment of EGFR mutation-positive lung cancer. Under the terms of the agreement Hanmi will receive an initial payment of USD 50 million and is entitled to potential milestone payments of USD 680 million, plus tiered double-digit royalties on future net sales. The agreement is subject to clearance under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act, similar requirements outside the U.S., and other customary closing conditions.

Dr Jörg Barth, Corporate Senior Vice President, Therapy Area Head Oncology, Boehringer Ingelheim said, “This exclusive license agreement with Hanmi Pharmaceutical is a significant step towards our vision of providing a wide-range of lung cancer treatment options as we better understand the underlying drivers of this devastating disease. The in-licensing of a 3rdgeneration EGFR agent bolsters our existing lung cancer portfolio and reiterates our commitment towards improving the lives of people with cancer through innovation and tailored treatment options.”

HM61713 is a novel 3rd generation, orally active, irreversible EGFR mutation selective tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). At this year’s ASCO Annual Meeting, interim results of the Phase I/II clinical trial were presented and showed strong efficacy signals, combined with a favourable safety profile.1 The compound is currently in Phase II clinical development for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with T790M mutations who have developed resistance to previous EGFR targeting agents. Preparations have begun for a broader Phase III trial programme, to be initiated in 2016.

HM61713 is another important pillar in Boehringer Ingelheim’s global lung cancer franchise which builds on two products, GIOTRIF®/GILOTRIF® (afatinib*) and VARGATEF®(nintedanib**), approved in various countries. With the inclusion of HM61713, Boehringer Ingelheim now has more than 10 compounds in clinical development in a wide variety of oncology indications, including immune oncology approaches like an mRNA-based therapeutic vaccine under development in collaboration with CureVac.

Dr Jeewoong Son, Chief Medical Officer of Hanmi Pharmaceutical said, “We are excited at the potential this license agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim will bring to the successful development of HM61713 and the possibilities this will offer to lung cancer patients. Boehringer Ingelheim has significant expertise in the field of lung cancer, specifically in EGFR mutated disease. Boehringer Ingelheim’s strong pipeline demonstrates its long-term commitment to successful development of cancer treatments. We are confident we have found the right partner to make the potential of HM61713 a reality.”

* Afatinib is approved in a number of markets, including the EU, Japan, Taiwan and Canada under the brand name GIOTRIF® and in the U.S. under the brand name GILOTRIF® for use in patients with distinct types of EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC. Registration conditions differ internationally, please refer to locally approved prescribing information. Afatinib is under regulatory review by health authorities in other countries worldwide. Afatinib is not approved in other indications.

** Nintedanib is not approved in other oncology indications. Nintedanib is approved in the EU under the brand name VARGATEF® for use in combination with docetaxel in adult patients with locally advanced, metastatic or locally recurrent NSCLC of adenocarcinoma tumour histology after first-line chemotherapy. Nintedanib is under regulatory review by health authorities in other countries outside the EU.

4 Deaths and 39 Injuries during Eid Holiday

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, July 22nd 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The nationwide statistics released by the General Directorate of Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of Interior have revealed that four people have died and 39 people were injured as a result of traffic accidents during the Eid Al Fitr holiday. The injuries included in the statistics ranged between mild to severe.

On a national level, the detailed statistics showed that a total of 23 accidents occurred during the time period of 16 to 19 July, 2015.

Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, director general of Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of Interior, said that the failure to abide by the rules and regulations of traffic led to the occurrence of accidents that subsequently marred the joyful occasion of Eid. “In a bid to reduce such incidents, the Traffic and Patrols departments nationwide are keen to redouble their efforts and to increase the control and surveillance operations on the road. The departments will intensify traffic outreach programs and promote awareness about the dangers of traffic accidents in addition to the useful methods for avoiding and preventing accidents,” he said.

Brig. Al Zaabi stressed the importance of complying with traffic guidelines and instructions, of driving carefully, and of leaving a sufficient and safe distance between vehicles. He spoke of the need to avoid obstructing traffic by parking haphazardly; not to inappropriately park in spaces dedicated for those with disabilities; and to not impede the work of emergency personnel by parking in spaces allocated for emergency, ambulance, and Civil Defense vehicles.

The director general of Traffic Coordination reiterated the necessity of fully complying with the laws, rules, and regulations of traffic. He urged for motorists to observe the legal speed limits on roads, to spare themselves and others from the risk of traffic accidents and the casualties and losses that subsequently result.  He also warned against using mobile phones while driving, whether to talk or text; stressing that such actions distract the driver and increases reaction times, which leads to accidents.

ADP Medical Services Counter Obesity through Treatment and Outreach

Specialized Clinic with State-of-the-art Equipment

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, July 22nd 2015 [ME NewsWire]

In a move to challenge the spread of obesity, the Abu Dhabi Police have launched a weight care clinic at the Medical Services Department to provide treatment and to raise awareness regarding the risks related to being overweight. The clinic, equipped with the latest devices to assist the treatment procedures under specialized medical supervision, promotes a healthy diet program and aims to limit the spread of obesity and prevent the diseases that are caused by unhealthy eating behaviors.

“The weight care clinic supports the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Police in their keenness to implement the most advanced standards of health care through multifaceted outreach programs,” said Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, director general of Finance and Services at the Abu Dhabi Police. “This initiative aims to maintain the health and safety for every member of society, as this will contribute to strengthening further efforts to enhance the outreach programs within the country. By expanding awareness, we will be able to improve public and community health programs and reduce the risks associated with being overweight, obese, or other unhealthy factors.”

He continued by saying that the awareness efforts of the department’s clinic focus on educating people about the risks associated with being overweight alongside the causes and means of preventing weight gain. “In line with the initiative to raise awareness about health-related issues, the clinic familiarizes the public with the complications that arise when someone is obese alongside providing medical advice for those who suffer from obesity,” said Maj. Gen. Badran. He said that the staff of the weight care clinic urge individuals to avoid unhealthy eating behaviors and provide guidance related to losing weight and avoiding weight gain.

Dr. Ahmad Fathi, internal medicine specialist at the Medical Services Department, spoke about the clinic, saying: “The clinic provides a comprehensive system to treat and provide medical examinations for the patients. The clinic conducts examinations to measure height, weight, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and checks for any vitamin deficiencies.”  According to Dr. Fathi, the clinic encourages and motivates patients to lose weight and to commit to a healthy diet under the periodic supervision of dietician who ensures that the patient is complying with the new diet regime.

“The weight care clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including a device that specializes in melting subcutaneous fat,” he said. “This medical device is accredited by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and dissolves the fat under the skin that has been absorbed by the lymphatic vessels. This device actually slims the body by targeting areas where fat tends to accumulate, such as the abdomen in men and the buttocks for women.”

The device can be used in line with a healthy diet for obese patients wanting to avoid a surgical procedure. Dr. Fathi said that in special cases of extreme obesity where dietary regimes are not as responsive, patients would be referred to centers that specialize in obesity-related surgeries. “Overall, the most important step that you can take for your health and to reduce obesity is to have a healthy diet.”

“There is a link between obesity and many chronic diseases,” said Dr. Fathi as he listed diabetes, high blood pressure, cancers, rheumatism, and increased rates of hyperlipidemia and heart diseases.

Emirati Authorities Arrest British Traveler

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, July 26th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

Emirati Police recently arrested a British citizen (of Indian origins) for causing a scene at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The traveler insulted the security personnel, the airline’s employee, and the UAE using obscene words, after he missed a connecting flight from Abu Dhabi to India caused by delays of his earlier flight from Heathrow to Abu Dhabi.

Lieutenant Colonel Fares Al Bakiri from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Abu Dhabi Police, who is heading the investigations, explained that the incident took place a week ago when the culprit arrived to Abi Dhabi International Airport on a delayed flight coming from Heathrow Airport resulting in missing his connecting flight from Abu Dhabi to India. He started swearing at the airline’s employee, and blocked the passengers’ queue behind him, insisting to board his connecting flight although the gate was closed and the aircraft is about to take off.

Lieutenant Colonel Al Bakiri also added that two officers were called to the scene, where other airline’s employees and witnesses gave identical testimonies of what happened. The officers asked the passenger to sit down and be patient until they figure out how to help him. In response to this behavior, the passenger started swearing at the officers using vulgar obscene words, swore against the UAE, and showed arrogance as he threatened the officers that he holds a British passport.

Regardless of the passenger denial of the above acts, claiming that he did not know that the personnel were police officers, eye-witnesses asserted the opposite and that both officers had their identification badges visible in English and Arabic. They also asserted that other passengers warned him that they are security personnel who came to solve the issue, yet the passenger went on in his rage and swearing. Later on, he claimed that he was swearing against himself and his bad luck, and did not mean to insult the UAE and the security personnel.

European Medicines Agency Grants Accelerated Assessment of Ixazomib for Patients with Relapsed/Refractory Multiple Myeloma

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. & OSAKA, Japan - Monday, July 27th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (TSE: 4502) today announced that the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has granted an accelerated assessment to ixazomib, an investigational oral proteasome inhibitor for the treatment of patients with relapsed and/or refractory multiple myeloma. The EMA awards an accelerated assessment to those medicines deemed to be of major public health interest and, in particular, therapeutic innovation.

Takeda expects to submit a marketing authorization application for ixazomib in the European Union (EU) in the coming weeks. The submission is based on the results of the first pre-specified interim analysis of the pivotal Phase 3 trial TOURMALINE-MM1. This study is an international, randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled clinical trial of 722 patients designed to evaluate the superiority of ixazomib plus lenalidomide and dexamethasone over placebo plus lenalidomide and dexamethasone in adult patients with relapsed and/or refractory multiple myeloma. Patients continue to be treated to progression in this trial and evaluated for long-term outcomes.

“We are pleased that the CHMP has granted accelerated assessment for ixazomib, and believe that this designation underscores the urgent need for therapeutic innovation in multiple myeloma treatments,” said Andrew Plump, M.D., Ph.D., Takeda’s Chief Medical and Scientific Officer. “We look forward to sharing the TOURMALINE-MM1 study data from the first pre-specified interim analysis at an upcoming medical meeting, and greatly appreciate the ongoing dedication and commitment from the patients and their families who have been participating in the ixazomib clinical development program.”

“Continuous therapy is emerging as a standard of care in multiple myeloma because it has demonstrated improved long-term outcomes,” said Philippe Moreau, MD, University Hospital of Nantes in France. “If ixazomib is approved, for the first time physicians will have the option of an all-oral proteasome inhibitor-based regimen for the treatment of multiple myeloma, which could be a real advantage in delivering sustained therapy.”

About Multiple Myeloma

Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells, which are found in the bone marrow. In multiple myeloma, a group of plasma cells, or myeloma cells, becomes cancerous and multiplies, increasing the number of plasma cells to a higher than normal level. Because plasma cells circulate widely in the body, they have the potential to affect many bones in the body, possibly resulting in compression fractures, lytic bone lesions and related pain. Multiple myeloma can cause a number of serious health problems affecting the bones, immune system, kidneys and red blood cell count, with some of the more common symptoms including bone pain and fatigue, a symptom of anemia. Multiple myeloma is a rare form of cancer with approximately 39,000 new cases in the EU and 114,000 new cases globally per year.

About Ixazomib

Ixazomib (MLN9708) is an investigational oral proteasome inhibitor which is being studied in multiple myeloma, systemic light-chain (AL) amyloidosis, and other malignancies. Ixazomib was granted orphan drug designation in multiple myeloma in both the United States and Europe in 2011 and for AL amyloidosis in both the U.S. and Europe in 2012. Ixazomib received Breakthrough Therapy status by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for relapsed or refractory AL amyloidosis in 2014. It is also the first oral proteasome inhibitor to enter Phase 3 clinical trials.

Ixazomib’s clinical development program further reinforces Takeda’s ongoing commitment to developing innovative therapies for people living with multiple myeloma worldwide and the healthcare professionals who treat them. Five global Phase 3 trials are ongoing:

TOURMALINE-MM1, investigating ixazomib vs. placebo, in combination with lenalidomide and dexamethasone in relapsed and/or refractory multiple myeloma
TOURMALINE-MM2, investigating ixazomib vs. placebo, in combination with lenalidomide and dexamethasone in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma
TOURMALINE-MM3, investigating ixazomib vs. placebo as maintenance therapy in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma following induction therapy and autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT)
TOURMALINE-MM4, investigating ixazomib vs. placebo as maintenance therapy in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma who have not undergone ASCT
TOURMALINE-AL1, investigating ixazomib plus dexamethasone vs. physician choice of selected regimens in patients with relapsed or refractory AL amyloidosis

For additional information on the ongoing Phase 3 studies please visit www.clinicaltrials.gov.

Over the week, the Abu Dhabi Police’s Mobile Dental Care Unit provided dental check-ups for citizens at the Al Bateen and Al Zaab majlis halls in Abu Dhabi. The services included educating the citizens on maintaining oral hygiene and urging them to have regular check-ups.

Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services at Abu Dhabi Police, said that the Mobile Dental Care Unit provides its public services in Abu Dhabi as per the instructions of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; which call for the provision of the best medical services to the public. “The unit, which is part of the ‘Plants of Hope’ initiative, will continue to provide services throughout the various areas of Abu Dhabi,” he said.

The staff members additionally performed cleaning procuderes and dental fillings, provided medical advice, and distributed pamphlets about dental care.

“The staff of the Mobile Dental Care Unit implementing the outreach program conducted dental examinations and educated the public about oral hygiene, how to properly care for their teeth, and the importance of regularly visiting to the dentist in order to prevent cavities and gum diseases,” said Col. Jassim Al Tunaiji.

“The unit saves both time and money through the provision of dental examinations that are conveniently located and eliminate the need to travel long distances for a check-up,” he said. “The medical team onboard the mobile unit uses the latest medical equipment to provide the dental examinations to all members and segments of society regardless of age. Decrease in Abu Dhabi Traffic Accidents during Ramadan

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, July 23rd 2015 [ME NewsWire]

According to the statistics issued by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Directorate General of Central Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police, there were a total of 130 accidents in Abu Dhabi during the month of Ramadan, a drop from the 165 incidents during the same period last year.  The statistics also revealed that the death rates witnessed from the various types of accidents also decreased, down from the 25 deaths last year during Ramadan to a total of 17 this year.

Colonel Hamad Mubarak bin Athath Al Ameri, Head of the Capital’s Traffic Department at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate attributed the decrease to the efforts of the concerned authorities, and most notably, to their efforts in intensifying control and increasing traffic awareness. According to Col. Al Ameri, the decision to ban trucks from entering Abu Dhabi during peak times also contributed to reducing traffic accidents alongside the cooperation of the public and help of various charities in providing Iftar meals and beverages to motorists in a bid to prevent drivers from speeding.

According to Col. Al Ameri, the main causes of traffic accidents throughout the holy month of Ramadan were due to failure to leave a sufficient distance between vehicles, precarious lane changes, neglectfulness and lack of paying attention, running red lights, speeding, and among others, failure to consider the road conditions.

He stressed the importance of complying with traffic laws and regulations, driving carefully, keeping a safe  distance between vehicles, avoiding blocking traffic due to haphazardly parking in public parking spaces. He warned them against parking in spaces dedicated to people with special needs, and not to park in spaces designated for civil defense or ambulance and rescue teams, as this will hinder their abilities during emergency situations. He additionally urged motorists to avoid using their mobile phones while driving, whether to talk, SMS, or chat.

GSMA Welcomes African Support for Mobile Broadband Growth

African Telecommunications Union Takes Important Step Towards WRC-15

LONDON - Friday, July 24th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- John Giusti, Deputy Chief Regulatory Officer, GSMA, commented on the outcome of the final meeting of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) in Nairobi, ahead of this November’s World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-15):

“The GSMA welcomes the strong decisions that African governments took at this week’s meeting of the ATU to foster the growth of mobile broadband across the continent. By coming together and agreeing unified proposals, they have shown their support for making more spectrum available to meet the mobile broadband needs of their citizens.

“The upcoming WRC-15 conference in Geneva will determine what spectrum bands will be allocated for mobile services. These decisions will determine the future of the mobile internet. This is particularly important for Africa, the world’s fastest growing mobile region, where mobile broadband is often the only way for people to access the internet. Additional spectrum will be vital in providing the capacity needed to support mobile broadband growth across the region and help bridge the digital divide.

“The ATU is a highly influential member of the international community and decisions coming out of Africa are increasingly shaping policy in other regions. The GSMA is, therefore, pleased with the ATU’s decision to support the L-band for mobile. This band has the potential for widespread global support at WRC-15, driving economies of scale that will benefit consumers in Africa and elsewhere.

“There is more work to be done to ensure there is sufficient spectrum allocated for mobile broadband. Increased support for an allocation in the sub-700MHz UHF band, which offers good geographic coverage, will be essential for connecting rural communities in Africa.

“There is also a need for higher frequency spectrum to meet the intense urban capacity demands and give city dwellers in Africa access to high-speed mobile broadband. African governments have made progress on recognising this growing need and we encourage final decisions to allocate more spectrum to mobile in these capacity bands, specifically 2.7-2.9GHz and 3.6-3.8GHz.

“This November, we will urge all the governments of Africa to make a clear and strong call for significantly more mobile spectrum to realise the ambitions of a digital economy and to create a truly connected society.”

Oberthur Technologies and Etisalat Group Sign a New Strategic Partnership on M2M and IoT Services

COLOMBES, France - Thursday, July 23rd 2015 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oberthur Technologies (OT), a world leader in digital security solutions for the mobility space, and Etisalat Group, the UAE-based leading global Telecommunications service provider, add a new dimension to their collaboration with their strategic partnership to offer the region’s first tailored M2M and IoT services across Middle East, Asia and Africa. Relying on OT’s M-Sense solution, Etisalat affiliates will extend their Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and Internet-of-Things (IoT) service offering beyond just connectivity, enabling their Enterprise customers to fully benefit from the growing M2M and IoT market.

Following an intensive evaluation process, Etisalat has selected OT’s M-Sense solution which consists of a rich set of horizontal capabilities for both application enablement and device management. M-Sense allows the secure collection and management of various data from any M2M device over any network and their control in real time. It will enable Etisalat operators to accelerate the availability of integrated value-added vertical applications, whether they are for Smart Cities, Universities or enterprises operating in the Transport, Oil and Energy or Real Estate sectors, to name a few.

As part of this partnership, OT will deliver a comprehensive solution to Etisalat affiliates, including local support on the definition of their go-to-market strategy, marketing mix and partnerships. Etisalat operators and their local ecosystem partners will be able to leverage the platform’s ready-made components and use existing application frameworks (including sensor data visualization and reporting, business rules, off-the-shelf applications), or to easily build new ones to serve each local market requirement.

“IoT is about connecting billions of objects, but more importantly it also requires the creation of numerous IoT solutions and services that will help monetize the value associated with this connectivity. It is essential for an IoT application platform to act as an innovation accelerator for developers, while also enabling seamless integration to enterprises’ existing business applications, including Big Data and analytics,” said Arnaud de La Chapelle, RMEA President and General Manager Telecom RMEA at OT.

“With M-Sense, OT not only provides a state-of-the art technology piece that meets all of these criteria but also the required services to be successful on the IoT market including business consulting and access to local and global IoT players. This end-to-end tailored offer has been designed to help Etisalat successfully take a step forward within the M2M and IoT value chain and maintain its position as an Innovation-leading company. We are truly excited by this venture and ready to accompany Etisalat for this large-scale strategic project,” he added.

“OT has been a long-term partner for Etisalat, already supplying our affiliates with both SIM cards and secure mission-critical network application systems. Being committed to bringing the best-in-class IoT capabilities to the market, Etisalat Group has acknowledged OT’s global high expertise in the field of M2M and IoT solutions.
