Extensive Activities at the MoI “UAE Innovation Week” in Abu Dhabi

The ‘Innovation Diploma Program’ in collaboration with HCT

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) will be kicking off tomorrow, Sunday, the UAE Innovation Week events, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, , who has declared 2015 as the ‘Year of Innovation’ in the UAE. The launch of the Innovation week is also part of  the UAE’s National Innovation Strategy launched in October last year by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai aimed at strengthening the UAE’s position as a global hub for innovation.

The nationwide celebration of innovation will take place from Sunday November 22 to Saturday November 28, 2015 at the Police Departments Complex facing Al Mushrif Mall and the Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi. It will include a wide array of events and activities for all, notably the launch of the ‘Innovation Diploma’ program, in partnership with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), and the signing of a couple of joint cooperation agreements.

Colonel Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Director General of Strategy and Performance Development at the Ministry of Interior, underscored that the “UAE Innovation Week” establishes a new culture across our institutions, based on innovation in all fields. “With unrelenting support and follow-up from the police leadership, the Ministry of Interior and the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ have established the Innovation Center, the Innovation Lab, and the Creativity Development Program. This aims to develop innovative solutions to the different challenges facing the UAE society that are closely related to the ministry’s tasks,” he indicated.

Adding further Colonel Al Dhaheri said: “The Innovation Week launched by the UAE government marks a new era of mature and determined perseverance to pursue additional national efforts towards further development and progress. Through this approach, our wise leadership embodies the serious government, which mobilizes all available resources and creates an appropriate environment for innovation and excellence, while reinforcing its substantial role to empower citizens to be the key pillars of change and innovation.”

Colonel Al Dhaheri also pointed out that the Ministry has formed a team to oversee the UAE Innovation Week, which features a myriad of events that aim to leverage innovation in all aspects of institutional work, with positive impacts that can be felt across society. “This can be achieved by focusing on several areas, including innovation, child education, social responsibility, mutual visits in partnership with the private sector, as well as lectures, panel discussions, and workshops that would reinforce the culture of innovation amongst staff members, entrepreneurs and community members,” he noted.

In conclusion, the Director General of Strategy and Performance Development emphasized that the Ministry will take part in the UAE Innovation Week with a set of different events, including lectures on innovation and the obstacles that face it. “The Ministry will be organizing various competitions to develop the Ministry of Interior’s services, and workshops to develop innovative projects using innovation tools. This first set of activities will take place at the Police Departments Complex in Abu Dhabi. The rest of the events will take place at the Marina Mall with morning and evening sessions. On the agenda, an Innovation Exhibition, during which the Ministry will present a number of innovative shows, in addition to brainstorming competitions, and other entertaining events for the public,” he said.
