MoI Encourages Participation in Prince Nayef Award for Security Research

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, March 21st 2016 [ME NewsWire]

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) called upon students from national private and public universities and MoI police colleges, as well as those working at research centers and retired officers, to take part in the competition for the 2017 Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Award for Security Research for GCC countries.

During two lectures held at the Police College in Abu Dhabi and the Sharjah Police Academy, Brigadier Dr. Ali Salim Al Tunaiji, member of the award board and representative of the UAE Ministry of Interior’s entry for the award, said, “The key topic of the award will be about promoting the values of citizenship and its role in protecting generations from delinquency in the GCC countries.” He also explained that the value of the award is one million Saudi Riyals, divided into two categories of participants; the first: individuals; the second: universities, colleges, and research centers. The award will be divided as follows: 500,000 Saudi Riyals for each category for the first three places.

He also pointed out that the competition’s main categories are: the concept of citizenship, citizenship between rights and duties, civic education and its role in promoting the values of citizenship, civil society institutions and their role in developing the values of citizenship, and contemporary challenges to promoting the values of good citizenship and how to overcome them.

Adding further, he said: “The categories allowed to participate in the competition are employees of the national private and public universities and other institutions of higher education, the security sectors at the ministries of interiors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and retired officers from these sectors. The research plan of the competition’s topic should be submitted no later than April 2016, and the approved and unapproved research will be announced in June 2016.”

“The terms and conditions to participate in the award are: applicants must be legal GCC citizens; submitted research needs to be serious, original and well thought out; the research should meet the basic conditions of serious scientific work and address some or all of the GCC countries; the research should contain ideas that tackle security phenomena, problems and issues facing the GCC countries; they should aim at promoting the values of citizenship among community members; and the research author should not have already won a previous award or acquired a scientific certificate by virtue of the entry.

“Participation should be submitted via the award’s website (www.gccsg.org) through the applications, special forms and models for the award, which are available at the website,” he said.
