ADP Licensing Department Enhances Fire Prevention Awareness

The Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department at Abu Dhabi Police carried out an awareness initiative to acquaint the public and personnel with the types of firefighting equipment and the process of using them to respond to home and vehicle fire incidents. The initiative, titled “Be Ready”, was carried out in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense General Directorate so as to spread the environment, health, and occupational safety culture and protect society against the risks of fires.

Brigadier Mohamed Mayouf Al Ketbi, Head of Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department said: “The initiative has focused on spreading the culture of prevention; implementing safety requirements in homes, vehicles, and public facilities; acquainting individuals with the optimal use of firefighting equipment; and taking precautions to avoid the causes of fires”. He also noted that awareness brochures have been distributed in several languages, including advice and guidance to acquaint the public with the proper ways to handle fire incidents.

Moreover, he noted that the public outreach activity falls in line with the environment, health and occupational safety’s general policy at Abu Dhabi Police. It also reflects the Ministry of Interior’s plans to spread the culture of prevention and to emphasize the need to adhere to public safety and prevention requirements. He also stressed the importance of spreading this culture among employees and the public.

The awareness program included mock drills to test the available prevention methods. A small fire was started in a fire pit outside of the department’s building, to acquaint attendees with the proper tools and methods to   extinguish fires, such as water, sand, and the lid method. Civil defense specialists also provided an overview of the various types of fire extinguishers.

Speaker and trainer Abdul Salam Al Mansouri from the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense General Directorate talked about the awareness that must be provided to the public and personnel. This would include acquainting them with the appropriate methods to handle fire incidents; conducting tests to assess readiness of the prevention methods; the proper ways to use firefighting equipment and providing public safety requirements. He also explained the emergency procedures to be applied in building evacuation in the case of fire incidents.

As part of the initiative’s activities, Colonel Hamed Mohammed, Chief of the Environment Health and Occupational Safety Section at the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department, inaugurated the link to the environmental education program portal on the website of the Directorate General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police. The program is designed to spread the environment, health, and occupational safety culture in order to enhance the level of awareness among staff members.

For his part, Major Hamad Al Maamari, Director of the Director General’s office; Head of the Website Development Team at the Directorate General of Central Operations explained that this program, which includes a wide array of information, came as a result of the various departments’ efforts to spread the environmental culture and awareness among staff members , consistent with the training-related procedures on the Environment, Health and Occupational Safety Management System by educating employees at their workplaces.
