Elders Switches to Rimini Street Support for its SAP Software

Australian agribusiness plans to use savings to invest in technology transformation initiatives to enhance user experience, while benefiting from a more comprehensive level of support

LAS VEGAS -Thursday 27 August 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Rimini Street, Inc. (Nasdaq: RMNI), a global provider of enterprise software products and services, the leading third-party support provider for Oracle and SAP software products and a Salesforce partner, today announced that Elders, a leading agribusiness in Australia, has selected Rimini Street for support and maintenance of its SAP software. By switching to Rimini Street Support, Elders has dramatically reduced the total cost of maintenance and support fees for its SAP applications. With the savings realized, Elders will invest in technology services for its branch network – primarily based in rural Australia. Elders is also able to run its stable ERP system for a minimum of 15 years from the time it switched to Rimini Street, without being forced to upgrade their current SAP application release just to stay fully supported by the vendor.

Expert, Responsive Support with 24/7/365 Availability

Elders provides agriculture products and services, livestock, real estate, insurance and other advisory services to the agriculture industry in Australia, with a focus on helping customers become more successful in their agriculture business. The company operates out of 250+ branches nationwide. Elders began the search for a third-party support provider to improve its application support service levels. They chose Rimini Street as their support provider based on the Company’s reputation for ultra-responsive support, and to ensure their SAP applications are running smoothly.

“On average, we have about 400 staff using the SAP software at any one time each and every day, so response time is critical to our operations,” said Peveni Rajapakse, Head of IT at Elders. “In the short period since we made the switch, the communication with Rimini Street’s engineers, support team and account managers has been great, and we are seeing excellent response times when tickets are raised. And with the additional capacity to re-invest in IT, we can begin to look at new and interesting ways to further enhance our customer experience.”

Deliver Greater Business Value Through Innovation

With the additional capacity to re-invest in IT, Elders plans to further enhance the end user experience with digital innovation, including setting up digital support channels for their large workforce which will free up considerable time and resources for their staff.

As with all Rimini Street clients, Elders has an assigned Primary Support Engineer (PSE) who is backed by a team of technical engineers, available 24/7/365, who have an average of 15 years’ experience in the clients’ software. Clients also receive Rimini Street’s industry-leading service level agreement of 10-minute response times for critical (P1) issues, and 15-minute response times for P2 cases.

“Innovation is how organizations get and stay ahead, yet without the ability to invest in innovative toolsets and practices, the best that organizations can do is tread water,” said Emmanuelle Hose, regional general manager, Australia and New Zealand, Rimini Street. “Elders is one organization that is driving its business forward by choosing a true partner for their ERP support needs that helps them free up precious resources to focus on more strategic initiatives within their business.”

Visa Harnesses Real-Time Deep Learning to Enhance Transaction Processing

New Smarter Stand-in Processing uses AI to help reduce the number of declined transactions for consumers when financial institutions experience an outage or disruption

SAN FRANCISCO-Wednesday 26 August 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) today announced Visa Smarter Stand-in Processing (Smarter STIP), a new capability that uses real-time artificial intelligence (AI) to help financial institutions manage transaction authorizations when service disruptions occur. Using deep learning to analyze past transactions, Smarter STIP generates informed decisions to approve or decline transactions on behalf of issuers in the event that their systems go offline. Visa pioneered the use of AI and neural networks to prevent fraud—Smarter STIP builds on that track record, and is the first in a suite of new AI-powered innovations coming to VisaNet, Visa’s global processing network.

“Consumers expect instant and uninterrupted access to their funds—failure to meet that expectation can be costly,” says Jack Forestell, executive vice president and chief product officer, Visa. “Stand-in processing has always been a vital assurance to our clients that when the unexpected occurs, we’ve got their back. By adding AI, that capability becomes smarter, stronger, and more dynamic.”

Addressing the challenge of downtime

Whether it’s scheduled maintenance or an unexpected outage, service downtime is disruptive for financial institutions and their customers. When stand-in processing is not in place, the potential impacts can be profound: lost revenue due to failed transactions, poor cardholder experience resulting in call volume spikes to customer service centers, damage to reputation, and even scrutiny from regulators.

Visa’s new Smarter STIP service builds on Visa’s existing STIP capability by using deep learning to analyze past transactions down to the cardholder level. Thus the transaction decision that Smarter STIP provides is based on unique insights derived from the cardholder’s past purchasing behavior, rather than solely on static rules applied across an entire card portfolio. With this added intelligence, Visa is able to provide a transaction decision on the issuer’s behalf that more closely mirrors the issuer’s own decision making process—with the potential to decrease transaction declines for cardholders by up to 50% in some cases.1

Harnessing AI for the Payments Ecosystem

Visa Smarter STIP is one of several new real-time deep learning capabilities designed to solve long-standing challenges and pain points for buyers, sellers, and financial institutions.

These enhanced services are made possible by the investments Visa has made to optimize its core infrastructure. This includes a scalable, high-performing, GPU-based platform designed to support the rapid deployment of deep learning capabilities.

“AI is one of the most transformative technologies of our time, giving us the power to build data-driven products that deliver new levels of insight and personalization. With one of the largest and richest data sets in the world, Visa is extremely well positioned to unlock the full potential of AI for our clients and cardholders, and at massive scale,” says Rajat Taneja, president of technology at Visa. “We’ve made significant investments in our infrastructure, making it possible to harness this data more deeply across all facets of VisaNet. Our data, combined with low-latency architecture and our unique modeling capabilities, make our technology platform among the most powerful for AI.”

Global adoption already underway

Smarter STIP will be available in October 2020 and has generated interest from a range of financial institutions around the world.

“At UBS, we believe in building a better future for our customers by harnessing the power of innovation and collaboration—a continuous process that relies on innovative thinking and transformative technologies and capabilities, developed both in-house and by our partners,” says Stefan Uebelhart, Head of UBS Card Center. “We are very pleased to launch Visa’s Smarter STIP service, as this is an example where the power of collaboration, transformative technologies and innovation come together to provide an improved experience for our cardholders. In our quest to build a better future for our customers, we see Visa as a valued partner and intend to work together in the innovation space.”

“As a leader in interest-free shopping platforms in Australia and New Zealand, Latitude Financial is constantly exploring new technology and innovation so we can deliver the best possible service to our customers,” said Latitude’s Chief Commercial Officer, Paul Varro. “Visa’s Smarter STIP service helps us substantially improve transaction approval rates. This is a great outcome, cleverly bringing together AI with our historical authorisation learnings, new datasets, and Visa’s experience in transaction processing to provide a rich customer experience, all the time.”

About Smarter STIP

Visa created the Smarter STIP capability to address a key pain point for issuers and issuer processors: the suboptimal experience for cardholders during service disruptions. Visa’s novel approach to stand-in processing, recognized through a US Patent in 2019, improves on the existing STIP capability through real-time evaluation of cardholder-level features. The model relies on:

Multiple recurrent neural network layers with millions of parameters.
Billions of historical records to train the model, resulting in an average 95% accuracy in emulating an issuer’s likely decision in Visa’s sample tests2.
Continuous learning from real time transaction and outage data, allowing the service to adapt and improve as an Issuers’ behavior changes over time.

Visa Smarter STIP does not require any technical change for clients to participate. Issuers connected to Visa DPS will be enabled for Smarter STIP when the service launches globally in October 2020.

The Open Group Launches the Open Footprint™ Forum

The Forum will collaborate to increase accuracy and transparency around industry measurement and reporting of environmental footprint data

LONDON-Wednesday 26 August 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Open Group, the vendor-neutral technology consortium, today announced the formation of the Open Footprint™ Forum, a Forum of The Open Group. This Forum will be focused on developing open and vendor-neutral industry standards to provide consistent and accurate measurement and reporting of environmental footprint data. The initial launch will focus on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data. The Forum will also cover the entire physical environmental footprint to include water, waste, and land data.

“Accurate data on environmental footprint data is critical for modern enterprises – not only for mandatory government compliance reporting and meeting customer and partner demands, but also for taking action,” said Johan Krebbers, GM Digital Emerging Technologies/VP IT Innovation at Shell. “Yet organizations face significant challenges when it comes to managing their environmental footprints such as a lack of consistency, compatibility, and interoperability throughout supply chains, as well as a shortage of standards for recording and processing this type of data.”

To meet the increasing business need for transparent and uniform reporting on environmental footprint data, the Forum will collaborate on the definition, design, and delivery of Open Footprint Data Platform standards. In the case of reporting GHG emissions, accurate data on emissions, consumptions, and base calculations will enable businesses to compare the footprint of goods and services in the value chain across every industry.

Alongside these standards, the Forum will create an open source-based system which will be accessible to all organizations. This Reference Implementation will act as the foundation for organizations to harness their own Open Footprint Data Forum implementations expected to be available from multiple parties.

“There is an urgent need to transform how we manage and report on environmental footprint data,” said Steve Nunn, President and CEO of The Open Group. “By utilizing new digital technologies and drawing on a huge amount of industry expertise, we are dedicated to enhancing reliability, credibility, and accountability around environmental data reporting to benefit businesses, governments, NGOs, and society as a whole. As an increasing number of organizations join the Forum, including operators, suppliers, and academic institutions from all industries, we are set to make substantial headway in helping businesses to better measure, monitor, and report their environmental footprints through the creation of open technology standards.”

There are currently fifteen organizations from multiple industries committed as members of the Open Footprint Forum, including Accenture, BP, Chevron, Cognite, DNV GL, Emisoft, Equinor, Halliburton, Infosys, Intel, Microsoft, Schlumberger, Shell, University of Oslo, and Wipro. Working together, member organizations will take an agile approach to the development of the Open Footprint Data Platform standards.

The Open Footprint Forum is open to all organizations. Information about the Forum and membership can be found here.

SINGAPORE-Wednesday 26 August 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Afton Chemical Corporation, a global leader in the lubricant and fuel additive market, has received approval from the Afton Chemical board to invest in Gasoline Performance Additives (GPA) blending capabilities at its Singapore Chemical Additive Manufacturing Facility.

The investment is part of Afton’s “Made In” strategy that focuses on globally lean supply chain solutions that enable quicker support and more effective supply to its customers in Asia. It will also provide the additional infrastructure required to support the company’s long-term global growth plans.

The demand for GPA in Asia Pacific is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 4% through 2024. “The additional GPA blending capacity in Singapore will help satisfy the increase in demand driven by the expected growth in China and other parts of Asia,” said Mr. Sean Spencer, Vice President and Managing Director of Afton Chemical Asia.

Afton has invested approximately S$400 million in the Singapore Chemical Additive Manufacturing Facility. The decision to continue Phase 3 investment is due to the integrated petrochemical hub in Singapore and trade connectivity to all parts of Asia and the Middle East. The Singapore government and Economic Development Board has been providing strong support to Afton from the start of its “Made In” investment in the region.

The new unit will help Afton and, in turn, our customers, by:

Developing cost-effective and customized solutions for the region that will allow our customers a competitive edge in their markets

Strengthening our ability to serve our customers worldwide and support their future growth

Connecting our capacities globally to support regional and global business continuity, providing security of supply and shorter lead-times

The new blending unit will be operational by the fourth quarter of 2021 and designed to comply with Quality, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety Assessment and all applicable regulations. This investment complements the blending and terminal operations in the Americas and Europe.

Afton is a global market leader in performance additive technology for fuels. Afton’s GPA solutions help fuels burn cleaner and more efficiently, enabling engines to perform as designed during their equipment lifetime on fuel economy, power and acceleration.

In Asia Pacific, Afton has established two fuel and lubricant additive Technology Centers in Suzhou, China and Tsukuba, Japan that provide Afton’s customers with enhanced technical services, including sample blending, physical and chemical analysis, and performance testing.

ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE 2021 UNITES AWARD-WINNING BACKUP WITH ADVANCED ANTIMALWARE, CREATING THE FIRST COMPLETE PERSONAL CYBER PROTECTION SOLUTION

Integrating real-time antimalware and on-demand antivirus with its best-of-breed personal backup solution enables Acronis to deliver unmatched value and comprehensive protection to users

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates-Wednesday 26 August 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

Acronis, a global leader in cyber protection, today announced the release of Acronis True Image 2021. The new release integrates advanced cybersecurity capabilities with the best-of-breed personal backup to create the first complete personal cyber protection solution for home users, prosumers, and small businesses around the world.

Incorporating cybersecurity capabilities such as real-time antimalware protection, on-demand antivirus scans, web filtering, and videoconference protection into Acronis True Image ensures users have complete cyber protection. For individuals and small business users, unifying these vital capabilities in one solution makes their protection easier to manage and more affordable, while greatly improving the security of their data and devices.

Delivery of this comprehensive solution comes as the COVID-19 pandemic exposes gaps in traditional solutions and strategies. Securing home machines has never been more important, yet a recent Acronis survey found nearly half (47%) of remote workers never received clear guidance on working from home.

“As more people work or attend classes from home, the FBI documents a 400% increase in cyberattacks because hackers know home systems are not usually as well-defended as an office,” said Serguei “SB” Beloussov, founder and CEO of Acronis. “Backup without cybersecurity is an incomplete option in that situation, as is cybersecurity without backup. Acronis True Image 2021 delivers the easy, efficient, and secure cyber protection needed today.”

By integrating the company’s VB100-certified antimalware technology into its award-winning personal backup software, Acronis can uniquely offer one solution that tackles the complete range of modern data loss threats.

Standalone backup and cybersecurity are obsolete

With the modern reliance on everyday devices like computers, smartphones, and tablets, the data they contain has an inherent value. Cybercriminals are constantly evolving their attacks to reach that data, which is why security research firms such as AV-Test report more than 350,000 new malware threats every day.

Since backup software and files are often the targets of these new attacks to prevent recovery, backup alone no longer provides suitable protection for users. Similarly, conventional cybersecurity solutions do not provide the data protection and recovery capabilities users need following an attack.

Relying on multiple products that were not designed to work together creates security gaps, is more complex to manage, and is more costly.

As a single, integrated solution, Acronis True Image 2021 closes those gaps, making protection and security more effective, easier to manage, and more affordable. Users have authentic, unaltered data that’s free of malware for safe recoveries. They can proactively stop any malware attack and then quickly restore affected files. The single, intuitive interface reduces the complexity of managing their security and backups.

Integration delivers superior cyber protection

For the last few years, Acronis True Image has been the only personal backup solution with a built-in antiransomware that stops attacks in real-time, while automatically restoring any affected files.

With the launch of Acronis True Image 2021, those capabilities are expanded with the addition of the company’s advanced antimalware technology, which is currently deployed in Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud. This next-gen, full-stack antimalware has been shown by independent security labs such as Virus Bulletin and AV-Test to return a 100% detection rate with zero false-positives.

As a result, home users gain advanced capabilities with Acronis True Image 2021, including:

Real-time protection, driven by AI-enhanced behavioral heuristics, which stops all malware – including zero-day attacks by never-before-seen threats
On-demand antivirus scans of the full system or quick scans of at-risk files, either of which can be scheduled in advance or run instantly
Web filtering that automatically blocks Windows users from accessing malicious websites that harbor malware, disinformation, scams, and phishing attacks
Videoconference protection prevent hackers and malware injection attacks from exploiting popular apps like Zoom, Cisco Webex, and Microsoft Teams
Comprehensive detection, with both behavioral analysis and signature-based analysis engines

These advanced antimalware capabilities are included with Advanced and Premium licenses, and offered as a three-month trial with Standard and Essential licenses.

Acronis True Image 2021 gives individuals and small businesses access to the same protection technologies relied on by global companies and top teams in the world’s most high-pressure professional sports.

“Cyber protection is a top priority for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing,” explains Bobby Rahal, co-owner of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. “For the past two years, we have relied on Acronis to protect our data and workloads with the latest cyber protection solutions. When our races were on pause, Acronis continued to provide protection for our team working remotely. Now, with Acronis True Image, everyone can safeguard their personal data against the worst-case scenario.”

Reliable as ever

The expansion of the built-in antimalware does not come at the expense of Acronis True Image’s backup capabilities, since risks such as disk failures, accidental deletions, and lost or stolen devices continue.

The new release features several enhancements, including:

Resumable replication of backups. If a disconnection happens while data is being replicated in the cloud, the process resumes from the point of the interruption to avoid duplicating of previously replicated data.
Quicker backup validation. Users can now choose to validate the latest version for their backup only, which significantly speeds up the standard process for validating the effectiveness of backups.
Greater VM options. Users now have the ability for .tibx archives to be mounted, moved, renamed, and converted to the .vhd format – enabling them to be run as virtual machines.

Pricing and availability

Four versions of Acronis True Image are available: Standard, Essential, Advanced and Premium. One-computer licenses starting at $59.99 for Standard and $49.99 for Essential. Special launch prices for Advanced and Premium licenses (starting at $69.99 and $99.99, respectively) are available until November 2020, at which time the full MSRP will be in effect (starting at $89.99 and $124.99, respectively).

About Acronis

Acronis unifies data protection and cybersecurity to deliver integrated, automated cyber protection that solves the safety, accessibility, privacy, authenticity, and security (SAPAS) challenges of the modern digital world. With flexible deployment models that fit the demands of service providers and IT professionals, Acronis provides superior cyber protection for data, applications, and systems with innovative next-generation antivirus, backup, disaster recovery, and endpoint protection management solutions. With award-winning AI-based antimalware and blockchain-based data authentication technologies, Acronis protects any environment – from cloud to hybrid to on-premises – at a low and predictable cost.

Founded in Singapore in 2003 and incorporated in Switzerland in 2008, Acronis now has more than 1,500 employees in 33 locations in 18 countries. Its solutions are trusted by more than 5.5 million home users and 500,000 companies, including 100% of the Fortune 1000, and top-tier professional sports teams. WorldRemit to Acquire Sendwave

Transaction Adds Scale in Key USA-African Payments Corridors To Support Growing Demand For Fast, Secure, Low-Cost, Digital Mobile Money Transfer

LONDON-Wednesday 26 August 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Today digital, global cross-border payments company WorldRemit announced it has agreed to acquire Sendwave, a rapidly growing app-based remittance company in a cash and stock transaction that is expected to close, subject to licensing and regulatory approvals, in Q4 2020.

Founded in 2014, Sendwave has built a leading and rapidly growing digital remittance service to East and West Africa, and this summer added Bangladesh, its first receiving market in Asia. Sendwave will continue to operate independently and retain its mobile applications, brand, management, employees and key partners.

“Both WorldRemit and Sendwave share a common purpose: allowing customers to easily and cost effectively send financial support to families, friends and businesses in other countries,” said WorldRemit CEO, Breon Corcoran. “WorldRemit has one of the broadest and most accessible networks for money transfers globally. Combining it with Sendwave, which offers instant, no/low-fee and fully digital payments from North America and Europe to Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and East Africa, addresses customer needs for fast and secure digital payments - especially given today’s travel restrictions and economic turmoil.”

“Our users send money so their loved ones can pay for necessities like utilities, healthcare and school fees. Government of Alberta and TransPod Sign Memorandum of Understanding on Development of a 1000 km/h Hyperloop Transportation System

TransPod project poised to create 38,000 jobs and put the province at the forefront of innovation

EDMONTON, Alberta-Tuesday 25 August 2020 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- TransPod, the startup that is building the world’s leading hyperloop system (the TransPod system) to disrupt and redefine commercial transportation, today announced it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Government of Alberta in Canada to support the development of safe, high-speed transportation in Alberta, based on the 1000 km/h TransPod vehicle. The MOU facilitates the process of attracting private investment to the province, in order to build a multi-billion-dollar infrastructure project. The project is estimated to create up to 38,000 jobs over 10 years, diversify Alberta’s economy, improve the efficient movement of people and goods, and reduce Alberta’s carbon emissions by up to 300,000 tonnes per year.

The MOU will see Alberta Transportation:

Support TransPod undertaking further study on the feasibility of developing its technology in Alberta
Share available transportation data as appropriate that may assist TransPod in assessing the feasibility of its technology
Work with TransPod officials to identify suitable land that can safely accommodate a test track
Participate in discussions with potential large institutional investors where suitable
No financial commitments or endorsements have been made by Alberta Transportation regarding the TransPod project.

The phases of the Alberta TransPod project are as follows:

Short-term: feasibility study (2020-2022)
Short-term: research and development phase (2020-2024)
Medium-term: test track construction and high-speed tests (2022-2027)
Long-term: construction of a full inter-city line between Edmonton and Calgary (to begin in 2025)
“Alberta’s government is supporting new and exciting opportunities for job creation and innovation,” said Ric McIver, Alberta Minister of Transportation. “By supporting TransPod’s feasibility study, Alberta Transportation will provide important information contributing to the research, development, testing, and construction of a full inter-city TransPod line between Edmonton and Calgary. We look forward to seeing this work put Alberta on the forefront of the movement of goods and people.”

The TransPod system is being developed to carry passengers and cargo between cities at over 1000 km/h. Fossil-fuel-free and fully electric, it is a new generation of ultra-high-speed ground transportation being developed for construction around the world. It is built on a proprietary and innovative design that leverages aerospace engineering and is bolstered by a global network of engineering partners. The TransPod vehicle’s top speed is faster than a jet, and it travels at ground level in a protected guideway that is immune to weather. With the convenience of a subway that departs every few minutes, TransPod will avoid airline flight diversions, travel faster than a jet, and three times as fast as a high-speed train.

The TransPod vehicle’s innovative and cost-efficient design is a new leap forward for transportation that is clean, safe, cost-efficient, and comfortable. The company is developing this technology with high safety standards in collaboration with the European Union and United States transportation committees.

“Alberta’s leadership mindset and partnership with TransPod firmly places it at the cutting edge of transportation innovation,” said Sebastien Gendron, co-founder and CEO, TransPod. “Through this strategic agreement that secures the province’s economic future without having to commit any taxpayer dollars, the Government of Alberta is investing in improving growth and quality of life in the region.”

“The space race’s technology led to massive spinoffs worldwide, and our vision for TransPod is to position Canada at a similar level of leadership,” said Ryan Janzen, co-founder and CTO, TransPod. “Future transportation comes from breakthrough innovations — and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”

The TransPod system is being examined by governments and organisations for several projects around the world, and the company is currently in the design and development phase for a testing facility in France. The TransPod vehicle will also be featured in a demonstrator which will be showcased in Canada and France, to unveil new breakthroughs that are part of the 1000km/h TransPod system.
