PUMA Reveals Global Partnership With HYROX

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Global sports company PUMA, has announced a worldwide partnership with HYROX, the world series of fitness racing. The partnership sees PUMA become the official apparel and footwear partner for all HYROX races from 2024 to 2027.


PUMA has been a local partner to HYROX since the first ever race, held in Hamburg in 2018 with 600 competitors taking part. PUMA’s new worldwide partnership is testament to the global success of HYROX, which has seen more than 175,000 participants compete in over 65 races during the 2023/24 season.

Mavenir Shines in New Omdia RAN Vendors Report

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Mavenir, the cloud-native network infrastructure provider building the future of networks, has achieved top spot in the new Partner Ecosystem category in Omdia’s new Market Landscape: RAN Vendors 2024 report, emerging as a major challenger.


Omdia introduced the Partner Ecosystem category in 2024 to reflect the growing importance of RAN vendors building and fostering an ecosystem of technology partners. Mavenir did not participate in the 2023 market landscape report but, says Omdia, ‘has entered as a major challenger in 2024. Morinaga Milk’s New Research Breakthrough Backed the Superiority of its Human-Residential Bifidobacteria (HRB) Strains in Metabolizing Toxin Precursor in the Gut

 


(BUSINESS WIRE)--Morinaga Milk Industry Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:2264), a leading Japanese dairy product company, has announced a groundbreaking discovery in the fundamental research of Human-Residential Bifidobacteria (HRB). Through a joint collaboration with Kyoto University, the research has discovered that a specific type of bifidobacteria living in humans, also known as HRB, has the ability to convert precursors of a potentially harmful component into a beneficial metabolite. The research team has uncovered a previously unknown metabolic pathway utilized by the HRB species, converting indole, a potentially harmful compound, into the immunomodulatory metabolite indole-3-lactic acid (ILA). The findings, published in the prestigious journal "Gut Microbes" on May 5, 2024, underscore the unique capabilities of HRB as superior probiotics.


Research Background


The research focused on indole, a compound produced by certain intestinal bacteria, which is metabolized in the liver and converted into indoxyl sulfate, a typical urinary toxin. When renal function is impaired, indole and indoxyl sulfate can accumulate in the blood, leading to potential health issues, such as the progression of kidney dysfunction. The formation of indole, which is derived from tryptophan, an essential amino acid for humans, may lead to harmful impacts that are inevitable and pose significant health concerns. In collaboration with Kyoto University, Morinaga Milk’s new research aimed to investigate whether HRB strains could reduce the concentration of indole and transform it into a beneficial metabolite, and understand the underlying mechanism.


Groundbreaking Findings Backed HRB Superiority


  1. Reduction of Indole Concentration: The study revealed that a specific type of bifidobacteria living in humans, including Morinaga Milk’s HRB strains such as Bifidobacterium longum BB536, B. breve M-16V, B. breve MCC1274, and B. infantis M-63 significantly reduced the concentration of indole produced by Escherichia coli, a known indole producer (Figure 1).
  2. Conversion of Indole into Tryptophan (Trp) and Indole-3-Lactate (ILA): The research demonstrated that selected bifidobacterial strains, including Morinaga Milk’s HRB strains, can convert indole into tryptophan (Trp) and indole-3-lactate (ILA) (Figure 2). While tryptophan is a necessary amino acid, ILA has been identified as an immunomodulatory compound that supports intestinal and systemic immune health. This discovery marks a significant step forward in understanding how beneficial gut bacteria can transform harmful substances into compounds that promote health.
  3. Metabolic Pathway Elucidation: The study identified a new microbial metabolic pathway involving tryptophan synthase β subunit (TrpB) and aromatic lactate dehydrogenase (ALDH) in the conversion process (Figure 3). The researchers confirmed that selected bifidobacterial strains, including Morinaga Milk’s HRB strains can efficiently transform exogenous indole into ILA and Trp. This elucidation of the metabolic pathway provides a detailed understanding of the biochemical processes involved, highlighting the sophisticated mechanisms by which bifidobacteria contribute to gut health.
  4. Exclusive Presence in HRB: An extensive genome database search of 11,943 bacterial strains revealed that the co-occurrence of trpB and aldh genes is exclusive to HRB species. This specificity underlines the unique probiotic potential of these bifidobacteria in human health applications. The genomic analysis underscores the distinctiveness of HRB, positioning them as uniquely capable of performing these beneficial transformations.

Implications for Health


These findings highlight the potential of HRB strains, such as those commercialized by Morinaga Milk, in mitigating the harmful effects of indole by converting it into beneficial ILA. This novel function of bifidobacteria highlights their beneficial effects on human, where indole and its metabolites pose potential adverse health effects for individuals with high risks of chronic kidney disease. Moreover, the conversion of indole into tryptophan and ILA also suggests broader implications for overall gut health. Tryptophan is essential for protein synthesis and serves as a precursor for serotonin, a neurotransmitter that plays a critical role in mood regulation and overall well-being. The production of ILA, with its immunomodulatory properties, further supports the immune system, suggesting the additional health potentials of HRB as probiotics. These findings provide valuable insights into the reasons why HRB species thrive in the human intestinal tract and maintain a symbiotic relationship with the human host.

    In addition to its core business of supplying LPG, Supagas is already steadily expanding its business in the supply of industrial gases and other products through 48 offices and over 200 retails in New South Wales and Queensland.
    Supagas has been aiming to acquire an established sales network in northern and western Australia and expand its sales channels. The recent proposal from Wesfarmers for the sale of Kleenheat's assets matches Supagas' business expansion plans, which led to the conclusion of this agreement.
    Through the acquisition of Kleenheat's LPG sales business, which has a stable supply of LPG to both residential and industrial demand in WA and NT for over 65 years, Supagas will expand its sales channels into northern and western Australia, realize synergies not only with LPG but also with its existing industrial gas business, and achieve sustainable boost in profitability.

(BUSINESS WIRE)--Energy Vault Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: NRGV) ("Energy Vault"), a leader in sustainable, grid-scale energy storage solutions, and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), a leading architecture and engineering firm, today announced a global exclusive gravity energy storage partnership.

Responsible for designing many of the world’s most well-known buildings, including Burj Khalifa, Tianjin CTF Finance Centre, Willis Tower, and One World Trade Center, SOM’s widely-acclaimed architectural, technological, and structural innovations have paved the way for tall buildings around the world for nearly a century.

As part of this strategic partnership, SOM will be the exclusive architect and structural engineer for the next generation of fixed frames and deployable structures for all new Energy Vault gravity energy storage systems (GESS), including incorporating gravity energy storage technology into tall buildings in urban environments and deployable structures in natural environments, to maximize sustainability, accelerate carbon payback and lower the levelized cost of energy consumption. Energy Vault began working with SOM during the last 12 months to optimize the structure, architecture and economics of its GESS technology, which is playing a critical role globally in the deployment of renewable energy.

G-VAULT™, Energy Vault’s family of gravity-based solutions, combines time-tested energy storage principles, modern engineering, an AI-enabled software orchestration platform and cutting-edge materials science to deliver long-duration storage. G-VAULT products decouple power and energy to enable full customer flexibility to design the optimum storage system while maintaining a leading performance in round trip efficiency versus any other mechanical or thermo-dynamic energy storage systems. The result is a flexible, low-cost, 35-year (or more) infrastructure asset designed for shifting power delivery without any energy storage medium degradation. Utilizing eco-friendly materials with the ability to integrate waste materials for beneficial reuse, Energy Vault’s gravity-based energy storage technology is facilitating the shift to a circular economy while accelerating the global clean energy transition for its customers.

To date, Energy Vault’s G-VAULT product suite has focused primarily on the Company’s EVx™ platform, originally grid connected (5 MW) and tested in Switzerland, which features a highly scalable and modular architecture that can scale to multi-GW-hour storage capacity. The EVx is currently being developed and deployed via license agreements in China (3.7 GWh announced projects), Egypt, Greece and the 16 country South African Development Community, as previously announced. Through this partnership, Energy Vault and SOM are designing a new platform of G-VAULT GESS solutions focused on improved economics, energy density and sustainability, including EVu™, EVc™, EVy™, and EV0™.

  • EVu is a superstructure tower design, which improves unit economics and enables GESS integration into tall buildings through the use of a hollowed structure with heights over 300 meters, and up to 1,000 meters tall. These structures will have the capacity to reach multi-GWh of gravity-based energy storage to power not only the building itself but also adjacent buildings’ energy needs. This innovative design which integrates leading GESS technology within superstructure building design and engineering will, for the first time in building construction and operation history, enable a carbon payback within accelerated timeframes of 3-4 years.
  • EVc for the first time enables the deployment of large scale pumped hydro energy storage systems integrated within tall building structures using a modular water-based system. Primarily a standalone GESS, EVc can also be integrated into tall buildings that form the basis of the EVu design. EVc’s cylindrical shape is an optimized design to withstand environmental factors such as wind and seismic events.
  • EVy applies Energy Vault’s core gravity technology to pre-existing slopes and topography to store energy with minimal environmental impact and reduce the need for manmade structures, which can achieve ultra-low cost capital expenditures through eliminating the construction of the fixed frame structure.
  • EV0 allows for all of the technical and economic benefits of traditional pumped hydro storage, while eliminating negative consequences associated with concrete production and disruption to existing wild-life eco-systems. This innovative, “modular pumped hydro” system leverages a unique and low cost fabric vessel (the “Water Tree”) to store the water in pre-manufactured modules that can be deployed quickly while leveraging proven pump-turbines and penstock designs for existing pumped hydro systems.

The partnership is led by SOM Partners Adam Semel and Scott Duncan with Structural Engineer Bill Baker. Widely regarded as one of the world’s leading structural engineers, Baker has spent his career crafting elegant solutions to complex structural challenges, from the 828-meter-tall Burj Khalifa to the netted installations of artist Janet Echelman. Architects Semel and Duncan have delivered many of SOM’s most impactful recent and upcoming projects, including supertall mixed-use towers across China, the largest private development in Thailand’s history, and a $5B electric vehicle manufacturing campus.
