Security Support Department Showcases its Experience in First TASER Technology Forum in Middle East

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, March 23rd 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Security Support Department at Abu Dhabi Police took part in the TASER Technology Summit, hosted in the Middle East for the very first time, to showcase its experience in the use of innovative technological solutions such as the Taser Conducted Electrical Weapons (CEWs), as part of its approved security procedures. The Forum, which is organized by TASER International, the specialized developer, manufacturer, and distributor of the Taser electroshock guns, was held on Monday at the Armed Forces Officers Club with participation of the UAE, KSA, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Algeria.

Colonel Khaled Saeed Al Shamesi, Head of Security Support Department at Abu Dhabi Police, stressed the commitment of the police leadership to further promoting security and stability in the country and increasing public trust in the services provided to them according to the best international standards.

In his speech, delivered on his behalf by First Lieutenant Saud Saif Al Zaabi, he said: “Abu Dhabi Police endeavor adamantly to utilize leading technologies in order to fight crime and improve the safety and security of society.

In his presentation, First Lieutenant Al Zaabi explained that the TASER electroshock weapon is an effective, and a safer alternative than guns for fighting crime, with advanced features, such as the laser beam pointer warning, the audible warning in the form of electrical hum or buzzing effect, and finally the dart-like electrodes, which stay connected to the main unit by conductors, to deliver electrical current to disrupt voluntary control of muscles causing “neuromuscular incapacitation” of a potential suspect for a short or for a prolonged period of time if necessary.

Ron Brandt, Global Vice President of Services and Products at TASER International, praised the high-end development level of police entities in the UAE and their keenness to remain up-to-speed with respect to the latest technological advancements and adopting modern devices. He also praised cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Police.

Adding further, he said: “The MoI staff members are making great strides in their quest to achieve excellence and leverage modern equipment efficiently. They also provide accurate feedback that proves their remarkable understanding of their job requirements and of potential circumstances of field work. This would ultimately strengthen their efforts in enforcing law and justice.”

It is worth mentioning that the Security Support Department and Force 7 Department at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters are also attending the Forum, along with the Armed Forces General Command and the Critical National Infrastructure Authority (CNIA).
